Campaign Objectives
- Honor Judy Allen’s Legacy: Celebrate her many contributions to dance education and the impact she had on countless students, peers, and colleagues.
- Create a Lasting Scholarship: 50% of the fund will be allocated toward scholarship opportunities designed to keep ACDA members connected to the field and the Association during unprecedented times of economic hardship. The fund will allow for scholarships to directly support Institutional membership
- Sustainable Programming: 50% of the fund will be used to support programming specific to the ACDA National College Dance Festival including but not limited to: the Honoree Award, hiring guest teachers, panelists, and speakers.
About Judy:
Judy earned her BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Oklahoma and her MFA in Modern Dance at University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
In 1972 Judy accepted a position at the University of Iowa where she began her 35 year span of teaching, choreographing, and administering dance in higher education. Starting as an Instructor of Modern Dance in the Women’s Physical Education Department where she continued for 15 years, becoming the U of Iowa’s first Full Professor of Dance. From the University of Iowa, Judy accepted a position at the University of Hawaii – Manoa, then to George Mason University, Fairfax, VA, and finally she became the Department Chair at California State University at Long Beach before retiring and returning to Iowa City, IA.
Judy served as the Treasurer, Vice President, and President of ACDA, helping to grow the organization’s presence and prestige throughout the nation.
